Asset Visibility and the Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico
As with any natural disaster, the two things that matter the most are speed and coordination. How fast can you get your assets deployed and how well can you coordinate those assets to combat the natural disaster? But, the problem with most natural disasters is that they typically have multiple government agencies mingled with various private sector assets all trying to coordinate with each other.
For example, the U.S. Coast Guard conducted an exercise in 2002 off the coast of Louisiana that simulated a disaster just like the one we are experiencing today. (Lessons Learned from 2002 Spill of National Significance or “SONS” Exercise Gulf of Mexico). The after action report from this exercise acknowledged that problems related to communication, coordination and technology persisted.
In order to deploy quickly, you have to know where your assets are at all times. In order to coordinate them you have to have total visibility of your assets at all times. The current...
SkyBitz Asset Notifications. Status Updates When You Need Them.
SkyBitz InSight Notifications can make your business more productive. Whether it’s when your assets are idle at a customer facility, in your own yard or when an unauthorized movement occurs within your fleet – SkyBitz can immediately notify you so your team can take action.
There are currently three types of event notifications within SkyBitz InSight: standard notifications, sensor and event based notifications, and custom notifications for Smart Sensor Tracking. This article talks about all three and you can learn more about each one by watching this SkyBitz Training Video.
Standard Notifications
You can set up notifications for low battery status of mobile terminals, response to paging request, panic activation and custom reporting profile activation and expiration.* To set up Standard Notifications, go to the Manage Settings >>> Notifications >>> Email Setup tab.
Sensor and Event Based Notifications
Events, such as starts and stops, cargo status changes and door...
Battery Maintenance. Point. Click.
Avoid non-reporting Mobile Terminals. While SkyBitz batteries last for years, it is important to continuously monitor battery life to avoid interruption of service. Why? An empty battery means you lose the key reporting your company relies on to manage its assets. An ounce of prevention with your batteries helps avoid unwanted outages.
Keep an Eye on your Battery Status
SkyBitz has simplified battery maintenance. You can determine the health of your Mobile Terminals battery packs with just the click of your mouse. Simply log in to your SkyBitz InSight account and navigate to the "Analyze Assets" tab.
Understanding your Battery Life
The remaining battery life for each Mobile Terminal is stored and available for viewing on SkyBitz InSight. Estimated battery life for each unit, based on its network profiles and the last battery replacement date, is also available.
The battery life of your Mobile Terminals is grouped into one of four categories. The categories are:
- GREEN...
Securing Your Fleet: SkyBitz Panic Mode Application
SkyBitz has a solution to secure your fleet and protect your customer’s valuable cargo. Our Panic Mode feature and SkyFence technology enable our Lockdown Mode to keep your asset protected at any time day or night.
SkyBitz Panic Mode
A Panic Mode request may be sent to a mobile terminal if you have lost contact with your driver, the asset has moved outside its designated SkyFence or your asset is not where it is supposed to be when viewing it in the SkyBitz InSight web interface. Upon submission of the Panic Mode request, your asset’s mobile terminal will start to report its position every 3 minutes, allowing you to track its exact location depending on unit configuration.
There are different ways within SkyBitz InSight to initiate a Panic Mode request. You can learn more about this feature in the Panic Mode Training Video.
SkyBitz SkyFencing
The SkyBitz InSight web application enables customers to set up their SkyFence by creating landmarks. These landmarks are...
Every One of Your Trailers Should Have its Own Fingerprint
By assigning your trailers with a unique asset ID within SkyBitz InSight, you will know what is going on with any specific trailer at any time – regardless of the size of your fleet. You can group trailers to track your trailer mix or just give special attention to a key set of trailers that may require it.
Installing and Setting up Your Mobile Terminals
Under the Configure Assets Tab are the tools to manage your asset details on a daily basis. You can assign and associate (or unassign) Asset ID’s and Asset Types to specific trailers via the “Install” and “De-Install” functions. You can also move Mobile Terminals as you wish.
Remember, it is crucial to keep the information up to date and accurate in order to manage your individual trailers and your fleet effectively. Not having an Asset ID associated with a trailer makes things fairly difficult when it comes to managing that asset. A fleet without Asset IDs assigned is a fleet that all looks the same.
Every Mobile...
