Every One of Your Trailers Should Have its Own Fingerprint
By assigning your trailers with a unique asset ID within SkyBitz InSight, you will know what is going on with any specific trailer at any time – regardless of the size of your fleet. You can group trailers to track your trailer mix or just give special attention to a key set of trailers that may require it.
Installing and Setting up Your Mobile Terminals
Under the Configure Assets Tab are the tools to manage your asset details on a daily basis. You can assign and associate (or unassign) Asset ID’s and Asset Types to specific trailers via the “Install” and “De-Install” functions. You can also move Mobile Terminals as you wish.
Remember, it is crucial to keep the information up to date and accurate in order to manage your individual trailers and your fleet effectively. Not having an Asset ID associated with a trailer makes things fairly difficult when it comes to managing that asset. A fleet without Asset IDs assigned is a fleet that all looks the same.
Every Mobile Terminal shipped to you has its Asset ID set to “n/a.” In order to look up positions by Asset ID, you have to set up these Asset IDs during the Installation process. The tools under the Configure Assets Tab provide everything you need to manage your Asset IDs online.
A good strategy for assigning Asset IDs to your Mobile Terminals is to use something that is already associated with that trailer - like a license plate number or trailer number. If you need to change any existing Asset ID, you can easily rename it under the Configure Assets >>> Asset Details Tab.
When a Mobile Terminal is physically being removed from its trailer or asset, it is recommended that you also de-install that Asset ID within SkyBitz InSight as well. The tool found under Configure Assets >>> Asset/MT Setup >>> De-Install Tab allows you to mark Mobile Terminal(s) as having been de-installed. It is important to understand that de-Installing a Mobile Terminal from an asset using this page does not affect the historical position reporting data. The only thing you have done is de-associate the specific Mobile Terminal from the specific asset. This is often done when you sell a trailer and put the Mobile Terminal back into your parts inventory.
You can learn more about configuring assets in the training videos on How to Install and How to De-Install the Mobile Terminals within SkyBitz InSight.
Use Groups as an Instrument to Help you Manage Your Fleet
Groups are collections of assets that always share some kind of a logical association. This association, however, isn’t limited to the asset type, the region of operation or asset IDs. This function can be used to manage trailers that need to have scheduled maintenance performed or trailers with Mobile Terminals that require battery replacement. You can define any number of groups, as well as add or remove trailers and assets at any time. It is also important to know that an asset can be a member of more than one group.
Any administrator can Add, Edit or Delete groups, as well as grant or deny standard user permission to access groups through the Manage Settings >>> Groups menu. To get additional information on group management, you can watch the Group Management Training Video.
